In the 2023 Las Vegas SuperContest, it looks as though 46 entries from the 1,301-entry field went a perfect 5-0 in Week 1. There were 28 contestants at 5-0 through Sunday, then another 18 moved from 4-0 to 5-0 thanks to the New York Jets (+2.5) covering.
One of the entries to go 5-0 in Week 1 belongs to the 2020 SuperContest winning duo of David “ODB” Baker and Mark Gregorich. Their “ODBMG” entry score five points thanks to a card that included the Atlanta Falcons (-3.5), Jacksonville Jaguars (-5), Green Bay Packers (+1), Las Vegas Raiders (+3.5), and Philadelphia Eagles (-3.5).
Of course, there is a long way to go in the SuperContest, but these 46 contestants have put themselves in the best position to begin with. We’ll see how long these perfect scorers can last. Last season, 66 entries came out of Week 1 at 5-0. Only two remained perfect through Week 2, and then everyone had at least one loss following Week 3.
The top 10 of the SuperContest consensus scored 7-3 in Week 1. The most popular play was the Cleveland Browns (+2.5) and they made 498 entries happy by beating the Cincinnati Bengals outright.
Four Teams Go 5-0 In SuperContest Gold
In the high-stakes SuperContest Gold that has a $5,000 buy-in and winner-take-all prize structure, there are four entries from the 92-entry field sitting at 5-0 through Week 1. Those four contestants are “BORN2WIN GOLD,” “BUTTERMOHL,” “DIZZLE,” and “TYKHE.”
Just like in the SuperContest and the Circa Sports Million V, the Cleveland Browns were the most popular selection from those in the SuperContest Gold. In the SuperContest Gold, more than half of the field, 50 entries, were on the Browns (+2.5). The second most popular pick was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+6) and they also won outright as underdogs, getting 40 entries a point.
It’s early in the season, so expect the SuperContest and SuperContest Gold standings to start to solidify one or two more weeks into the season. Stay tuned to Gridiron Gamble for more coverage on both of these contests.
